Think you’re seeing double? As you look at the pictures of the Flight Iris 8 Tenor, do not worry–your eyes are not deceiving you! The Flight Iris 8 Tenor is an eight string ukulele, Flight’s first multi-string ukulele. An eight string ukulele offers a unique playing experience with four courses of two strings, tuned with octave Gs, octave Cs, and unison Es and As (gG cC EE AA; high-g and low-G). An eight string ukulele creates a sound unlike any other ukulele–strong, and full of character. While tuning an eight string ukulele takes more time than tuning a four string ukulele, the playing difference is not widely different, as your fingers will feel each course of two strings as a single larger string.

Like the standard four string Flight Iris Concert and Tenor models, the Iris 8 boasts a painted solid spruce top with laminate mahogany back and sides. The Iris includes a pickguard, slotted headstock, rear-facing Der Jung tuners, offset front position markers, a 38mm nut, compensated saddle, fluorocarbon strings, and deluxe gig bag. Unlike our standard Iris models, the Iris 8 includes an active pickup, so that you can easily share your unique sounds with the world. Underneath the painted top of the Flight Iris 8 lies a solid spruce top, creating a tone that is great for performance, recordings, and playing in a group. The solid spruce top is tempered by the Iris’ laminate mahogany back and sides, creating a sound that is not only bright and punchy, but also rounded out with the warmth of a laminate ukulele.

Flight Clear Fluorocarbon Strings

The Iris 8 uses eight Flight clear fluorocarbon strings for clarity and projection that further elevates the tonal properties of the solid spruce top of the Flight Iris. The strings are tuned gG cC EE AA, (g High G, G Low G).

Classic Slotted Headstock

The Flight Iris 8 showcases a beautifully classic slotted headstock, enhanced by a modern black finish and equipped with open geared tuners. This combination makes the headstock not only functional but also stunning in its design.

Bone compensated saddle

The Iris 8 features a rosewood bridge, as well as a real bone nut and a compensated saddle. Compensated saddles help to properly set the intonation of each string!

Small yet mighty

Double C1U active pickup

The controls for the active pickup are mounted underneath the sound hole, meaning that a cavity does not have to be created on the side of the ukulele for the pickup.
